I’ll get straight to the point - Jurassic Park made this list because of its groundbreaking CGI (computer-generated imagery). It does have a pretty good story and in the process delivers some thrills, but the main reason it’s No. 88 in this list is the CGI, which was nothing short of extraordinary at the time.
Think back to 1993 and the first time you saw this flick. Those dinosaurs blew you away, didn’t they? Nothing like it had been seen on the silver screen. Jurassic Park ushered in a new era. The boundaries of film-making were expanded and storytellers were able to fully realize their vision and create worlds and characters that previously existed only in our mind’s eye.
Fast forward fourteen years and CGI is so common that we don’t notice it like we used to. At least not with the “how did they do that?” sense of awe that we experienced back in ‘93. Rather, we tend to take CGI for granted now, unless it’s bad CGI or a filmmaker relies on it too much.
That being said, it’s still really cool.
